Inspire Your Little Artist
Teaching kids about art through inspiration and creation.
Spark your little artist-in-residence’s creativity by exploring different works by painters, sculptors, or other artists. Help them choose a piece of work they like, then encourage them to create – and exhibit – their own masterpiece inspired by the original work!
Discover their favorite!
Browse through different works of art you may find in art books, through online research, or in your home (including original pieces, posters of famous paintings, or replicas). Ask your child to choose a favorite.

Unleash their creativity!
Provide your little artist with any supplies you may have, including: different colored paper, crayons, paint, glue, mini pompoms, glitter, stickers, markers, clay, playdough, pipe cleaners, recycled materials, old magazines – any safe material you may have.
Talking Tips
As they create their artwork, ask them: How is your piece similar to the original artwork? How is it different?
Remind children they can create anything they choose – a drawing, a painting, a sculpture, or a collage.
Exhibit their masterpiece!
Ask your child if the artwork has a name, then help them sign and date their final piece – just like you would find at The Met!
