Make Halloween at Home Exciting with these Simple Solutions!

Have a Halloween Watch Party!

Why go trick-or-treating when the real treat is hosting a not-so-spooky stay-at-home Halloween movie night? We’ve got a plan for you to make Halloween a fright-free night — cuddle up with your child and watch their favorite characters solve Halloween mysteries! Look for our movie night picks in the Noggin app (Halloween hub), then talk about what you’ve learned with our conversation starters.

WATCH: What is Blue Afraid Of?

Blue is scared, which means, we’ll have to play Blue’s Clues to determine what is frightening her. Is it a ghost? Is it a goblin? Does it hoot or howl? Find out and then discuss the episode to help your child talk about their fears.

Conversation Starter: “How did Blue get over her fears?”

WATCH: Haunted House Party

Boo! The Bubble Guppies are invited to a costume party at a haunted house! This invitation results in them learning that things that appear spooky aren’t always what they seem — in fact, they aren’t scary at all!

Conversation Starter: “Do you know what ‘SPOOKY’ means?”

WATCH: Pups and the Ghost Pirate

It’s Halloween! Capt’n Turbot has decorated an old wreck as a pirate ship for a town party. After a few mysterious events, the party-goers conclude there is a ghost aboard the ship, and the PAW Patrol pups are called to investigate.

Conversation Starter: “Do you think ghosts are real?”

WATCH: Mustache Day

While out trick-or-treating, Wally and friends discover the biggest treat in the world. Watch to find out what it is and help Wally as he uses the power of words to solve problems along the way.

Conversation Starter: “Can you tell me a word related to Halloween that ends in ‘at’?”

WATCH: Ni Hao, Halloween

Trick or treat, it’s Halloween! Kai-Lan and her friends dress up to go trick-or-treating with YeYe, but just as they’re heading out, Rintoo sprains his ankle! How can Kai-lan comfort her frowning friend who can’t enjoy the rest of the night with her?

Conversation Starter: “When things go bad, how do you make things better?”

5 Smart & Fun Halloween Activities to Try This week

Don’t cancel Halloween. Get creative! Here are 5 fright-free ideas you can try at home, inspired by the Halloween section in the Noggin app!

1. Put on a Shadow Show

In “Truck or Treat” Blaze and AJ teach kids about shadows. Watch to learn how shadows are made and see what shadows AJ and the Monster Machines make! Get inspired to put on a shadow show of your own at home. How many different shadows can you make?

Build Skills: As you make shadows with your child, talk about shapes you can make and how different shapes look like different things! This builds your child’s math skills and their ability to solve problems.

2. Do the Costume Limbo

This may not be a traditional Halloween activity, but you can make it one with the help of Blue and Steve and their catchy “Costume Limbo” song! Grab a broom and see how low you can go!

Build Skills: When you and your child try to go under the broom without bending, you practice using your big muscles and get stronger!

3. Play Costume Charades

From the mummy mambo to the vampire twist, learn moves from the Backyardigans and then come up with your own moves! How would a cat dance or a spider? Make up 2 or 3 moves in order and see if your child can guess what you are and copy your moves. Now have your child make up some moves!

Build Skills: When you dance with your child, you practice moving your big muscles and follow directions to make dance moves in order!

4. Replace Fear with Fun

Things that go bump in the night might give kids a fright! Let’s face those Halloween fears! Watch “What is Blue Afraid Of” to help get the conversation started. Like Steve, let’s draw some pictures of what makes us afraid, then let’s think of ways to make these things a little silly. When you talk things through, things may not seem as scary as your child thinks.

Build Skills: Sometimes children are afraid of things and we don’t even know it! When you and your child draw and talk about their fears, children begin to name and describe their feelings—this helps them understand and control their fears!

5. Have a Halloween Cookoff

Feetloaf anyone? Your kids will have a blast transforming dinner into simple monster meals! Our “Happy Halloween Cookoff” game features recipes you and your child can easily make in real life!

Build Skills: When you and your child follow a recipe, you practice remembering and following directions!
