Empathy
Kids will learn about imagining how others are feeling and recognizing that people may have feelings and thoughts that are similar to or different from their own–and that's okay!
You can access Big Heart activities with your Noggin subscription.
Kids learn these
important skills
- Recognize and use emotional cues to figure out how someone else is feeling (e.g., tears can indicate sadness, furrowed eyebrows can indicate anger).
- Label what others might be feeling with specific vocabulary.
- Understand how others might be feeling in different situations.
- Recognize that others may have emotions that are similar to or different from their own–and that is okay.
- Learn to notice when someone might need help with a big feeling. Help can include noticing, sharing, or resolving an issue, but does not always have to eliminate a feeling or “fix” it.
- Respond to others' feelings in positive ways, including expressing care and concern and practicing inclusiveness.
Kids learn these
important skills
- Establish and sustain meaningful relationships that are a source of support, comfort, and joy.
- Feel liked, appreciated, and included, and help others feel that way too.
- Build self-esteem.
- Develop an interest in learning about and being friends with others who are different from them.
- Recognize that it is amazing and fun to be friends with people who are different from them.
- Expand their social world.

Ask how the Noggins who are baking together feel and why. Have your child suggest strategies to help the Noggin sitting alone feel better. Than, watch it again with sound and see whether the feelings and strategies your child came up with were thought of by the Noggins!
